- About
I run the IT side, and I write the code.
I'm Garrett Smith. I'm the in-house IT and systems lead at a manufacturer. That means the device fleet, Microsoft 365, identity, the help desk and, more and more, the AI tools people want to use with all of it.
Most of what I build starts as an IT problem. Someone needs data the AI can't reach, or a task that eats an afternoon every week. I build the integration, put limits on what it can touch, test it, and hand it to the people who will run it.
I've built MCP servers that let AI agents run device and software tasks with scoped permissions, internal web apps behind company sign-in, and a platform where several AI agents work as a team with QA gates and approval rules. They run every day.
I build with AI coding tools daily. That makes me faster; it doesn't make the AI responsible. I review what ships, I test it, and I put my name on it.

Limits
Stated plainly, so you can decide quickly.
- Under three years in IT. Everything here is from that time.
- No certifications and no degree listed. I would rather show you running systems.
- Real in-house work is described in general terms; I never show my employer's data, names or systems.
- I take work through Upwork, alongside my in-house role.
Have a problem like the ones in the report?
Tell me what the AI should reach, who will use it and who has to approve it. I will reply with how I would build it, what it would touch, and a fixed scope.
