Shop-Floor and Inspection PCs: Change Control
Owner Dana Whitfield · updated 2026-05-05
CMM, CNC programming and inspection PCs are under change control (QP-7.1.5). Windows updates are deferred and installed in a scheduled window with Quality sign-off. No software installs or admin rights without a Quality-approved change.
Why
CMM and inspection PCs produce records for customer first-article inspections (WI-210). Uncontrolled changes can invalidate a measurement program.
Rules
- Windows updates on CMM PCs are deferred and installed on the first Saturday of the month after Quality sign-off.
- If a restart prompt appears during a measurement run, postpone it; do not restart mid-program. Tell IT the PC name.
- Software or vendor patches (for example metrology software updates) need a change request approved by the Quality Manager. IT installs them; users do not get admin rights.
- After any change, the CMM programmer re-runs the verification artifact before releasing the machine.
